MERUÒKOVICE (apricot Brandy)

Brandy production has a long tradition in Bohemia and Moravia, the first, for example, being made from grain leftovers in the 16th century, and fruit distillates started to be produced in the 17th century.

Unlike various liquors with an apricot in their names or symbols, only pure and genuine distillate with no additives or scents may be sold under the name MERUÒKOVICE.

Well ripe apricots with high sugar content are necessary for high quality meruòkovice. These are mashed and fermented for several weeks together with whole stones, which emphasize the characteristic taste and aroma. Then there is time for double distillation.

Particular apricot varieties and exact procedures are often producer secrets and are passed down from one generation to another in families.

Meruòkovice is excellent as an aperitif as well as a digestive, but as each Moravian will tell you … it is a reliable remedy for colds, indigestion, sore throats, toothache, and particularly bad tempers. Thanks to its fruity smell, reminiscent of summer, it is simply the best present for the whole year.

APRICOT IN APRICOT LIQUOR

This honey delicacy, handmade according to an old family recipe, is a great combination of dried apricots with quality apricot liquor – genuine and pure fruit spirits traditional in the Czech Republic since the 17th century.
It’s great with whipped cream, for decorating sundaes and fritters… but best without any additives as a delicious dessert.
